A Unique Adventure
Walking safaris
Immerse yourself in the true essence of the African wilderness with our walking safaris. Step off the beaten path and venture into the untamed bush, where every step brings you closer to the rhythms of nature. From the powerful footprints of elephants to the tiny traces left by the smaller creatures, your senses awaken as you connect with the land on a deeper level. Guided by expert rangers, experience the thrill of walking amongst Africa’s iconic wildlife, creating unforgettable moments that will leave you transformed.
What to expect?
- The sole purpose of the walks is to concentrate on the smaller things of nature. Tracks and signs of animals. Birds and insects and if you are lucky enough you might be able to see one of the big 5.
- The thrill of walking where the big 5 roam and to experience the splendid view with the quietness of not having a vehicle noise in the background is what makes this special.
- We do frequently encounter some of the big 5 members, and the aim is to only approach up to a safe distance, trying to view the animals without disturbing their natural behaviour.
- Guests are accompanied by an armed trails ranger.
- 1 Guide can accommodate up to 4 guests. 2 Guides can accommodate up to 8 guests.
Where are the walking Safaris conducted?
- Walking Safaris are conducted in the Wilderness section of Pilanesberg National Park. This means that we depart the lodge, then drive for about 30 minutes to the designated areas of the trails.
- We have 4 different areas where the trails are conducted, thus guests can do more than one walk without having to walk the same areas, giving them some beautiful and different views of the areas.
- Different walking areas have different walking difficulties, but on average about 5 km is covered over 2,5 hours.
- Walks depart from the lodge before sunrise so that the walk can start early and be finished before it gets too hot. During winter midday and afternoon walks can also be arranged.
- Guests need to stay at Mbazu Game Lodge, regrettably no day visitors are allowed.
- Walks are also depending on availability of a trails guide; thus, prior bookings are essential.
- The cost of the walks is available on request.
- Walks are offered all year round.
- Because we conduct our walks in the wilderness section of the Pilanesberg it is very special. Only guests that walk will be able to see these special places. It cannot be accessed by vehicles.
- Breakfast packs can be arranged to take with on the walk, but guests return to the lodge for breakfast.
- Guests will be supplied with water.
